Commonly found in herbicides like Round Up, Glyphosate is the most used weedkiller in the world. Its abundant use has resulted in Glyphosate being present in 80% of the U.S. food supply. Farmers use Glyphosate to keep weeds away. Weeds hurt crops by stealing water, sunlight and nutrients and ridding crops of weeds can significantly increase the crop yields, which is important to farmers. But the advantages of Glyphosate are greatly overshadowed by concerns over its safety. In 2015 the WHO’s International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) identified glyphosate as a ‘probable carcinogen’. With the current wide use of glyphosate by farmers, but also by governments and individuals, the component can be detected on crops but also in water and food. As consumers around the world begin to demand transparency in the ingredients of the food they eat, the use of glyphosate has come under scrutiny.
As part of our commitment to sustainability, Green Goat is partnering with The Detox Project and we test our products for glyphosate residues. Look for the ‘Glyphosate Residue free’ logo on all our products. The Detox Project is a research and certification platform that brings awareness to the public by testing for toxic chemicals. The Detox Project demands extensive analysis and Green Goat must achieve results of under 0.02 parts per million of glyphosate residue and AMPA residue, much stricter than legislations, to be certified as glyphosate residue free.
Green Goat milk products can be used in a variety of applications. Goat milk powder is used in both food and non-food manufacturing industries; dairy products such as cheese, yogurt, desserts and ice cream, baking products, baby foods, chocolate, cosmetics and soap.
When goat milk reaches the stomach, the protein in goat milk forms a less dense, softer curd than cow milk making it easier for your body to digest it and causing less irritation than cow milk. Additionally, while the fat content of cow and goat milk is similar, the fat composition is different and the fat globules in goat milk are 10% smaller. Both adding to the fact that goat milk is easy to digest.
